Boat Permits 
BOAT TYPE: SEASONAL DAILY:

Non-Registered $30. $15.

A boat permit is required for any vessel on Big Bear Lake

  • Registered Boats are any motorized boats of any length and sailboats over eight feet in length.
  • Unregistered boats are non-motorized boats, sailboats 8 feet or less in length, sailboards and float tubes: $30
  • There are several free Lake use days each year.  They are scheduled on Fish and Games free fishing days.
  • Maximum boat length allowed is 26 feet.

Be sure to call well in advance for reservations.  This is a popular RV park and fills up quickly.  
There is  a two nights minimum stay on weekends; three nights minimum stay on holiday weekends.

Boat Storage
The MWD offers indoor winter boat storage.

  • 6 Consecutive months (payable in full upon boat arrival): $550
  • Monthly rate: $125

The following is shown as it appears in the Resolution NO. 2008-01

Section 4.      Dock Licenses
The following fees shall be paid as a condition of receiving a dock license:

  1. Application:                                                                                     $ 25

Section 7. Miscellaneous
The following fees are established for miscellaneous Lake-related services and shall be paid in advance of service:

  • Herbicide weed control treatment - Per acreage fee
     
  • Services requiring patrol boat or work boat (1 hr. min.) (Includes special services and boat impounding)
    1. Boat with operator: $110 per hour
    2. Each additional staff person: $30/hour
       
  • Boat and dock storage/impounding daily rate: $ 35
     
  • Heavy equipment rental (1 hour minimum):
    1. Forklift with operator: $110/hour
    2. Truck tractor with operator: $110/hour
       
  • Special events
    1. Administrative: $100
    2. Refundable deposit: $500
    3. Lake use:
      1. Non-Commercial: $ -0-
      2. Commercial: $200 or 5% of Lake activity gross receipts, whichever is greater
         
  • Commercial filming/photo shooting:
    1. Refundable deposit: $500
    2. Still photo shoot: $50
    3. Film/Video production: $150
       
  • Photocopying (per page)
    1. Regular: $.25
    2. Researched material: $.50
       
  • Label production (per set)  
    1. Private dock owners: $25
    2. Private boat owners: $75
    3. CD copy: $5
       
  • Meeting/Community Room (room available daily between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 10:00 p.m.; no overnight use shall be allowed):
    1. Individually scheduled meetings (fees per use):
      1. Security/cleaning refundable deposit: $ 50
      2. Utility use fee (non-refundable; up to 6 hours of use):
        1. May-October: $ 15/use
        2. November-April: $ 25/use
           
    2. Regularly scheduled meetings (at least 12 meetings per year):
      1. Security/cleaning refundable deposit: $100/year
      2. Utility use fee (non-refundable; up to 6 hours of use):
        1. May-October: $ 15/use
        2. November-April: $ 25/use
           
    3. Room key - refundable deposit: $ 5/key
       
    4. Television/VCR:
      1. Refundable deposit: $200
      2. Use fee:
        1. individual meetings: $ 25/use
        2. monthly scheduled meetings: $100/yr
           
    5. Audio system:
      1. Refundable deposit: $200
      2. Use fee:
        1. individual meetings: $25/use
        2. monthly scheduled meetings: $100/yr

Notes: There shall be no fee or refundable deposits charged to other government agencies for room use. However, government agencies shall be subject to fees for the use of television/VCR and audio system. A $20 charge will be debited from refundable deposit when heat is left on or if scheduled meeting is not canceled with District staff.

  1. Mitigation fee for Lakebottom disturbed:
    1. shoreline erosion control project involving no fill other than placement of riprap, installation of toe protection for a seawall, launch ramp installation and installation of steps  $500
    2. non-ministerial projects where additional mitigation may be required to reduce adverse impacts (per acre or portions of an acre) $1,000 and/or capital improvements including, but not limited to, fish structures, aeration systems, habitat and spawning improvements as approved by the Board of Directors
       
  2. Legal fees or filing fees incurred as a result of the project shall be borne by the project proponent
  3. All consultant costs related to preparation of the environmental document, shall be borne by the project proponent
  4. Mitigation fees shall be deposited into the Stanfield Marsh Wildlife Mitigation Account

Note: Application fees are non-refundable and due upon submission of application.


Section 8. Payments
Fees shall be paid as follows:

  1. Dock license and aquatic plant control fees:
     are due annually on or before April 1st of each year. License fees not paid by April 30th will be increased by 20%. License fees not paid by May 31st will be increased by 50%.

     
  2. Boat permit fees collected by marina operators shall be remitted to the District no later than Tuesday next following the collection by the operator. The operator shall submit sales records with the fees. If the operator remits the fees in a timely manner as set forth above, the District shall pay an administrative fee to the operator equal to 10% of the remittance. If the operator fails to remit the fees within 30 days of collection, the operator shall also pay a late charge to the District of 1 1/2% per month, or fraction thereof.
     
  3. If a late fee is not established in this resolution, pursuant to contract or otherwise, a late fee of 1 1/2% per month, or fraction thereof, shall be levied if fees are paid late.
     
  4. All returned checks shall be subject to a $25 handling charge and may be subject to other legal actions.

Permit must be displayed on boat and is non-transferable.

Permits are available at most marinas, the public launch ramps, the MWD main office and from Lake Patrol boats.

Lake Use Permits may be revoked for violation of any law.
